WHY THE OFFICE IS ONE OF THE BEST SITCOMS EVER!

A mockumentary is when the character interacts directly with the audience through the camera. The character asks the audience questions, speak to the camera like a person, and acts so normal that it is easy to forget whether you’re watching a TV show or listening to someone’s interviews.

THE HOOK

· The show is filled with heart and of course grossly inappropriate humour from Michael Scott that if someone uses in present might get “cancelled”.

· The point is, the show will go to extreme lengths to build up an extremely emotional moment and pay it off extremely well, with some humour to remind that the show is still a sitcom. It stood its ground as a comedy, bringing in jokes and other characters to diffuse the tension, and everything works magical.

· The stupidity is the humour, but it’s incredibly quick. Bring in a random character; you’ll think they’re a regular on the show. They wouldn’t be interested, they’d just think you’re being stupid.

· The Office has its fair share of ongoing gags, from our all-time favourite “That’s what she said” to the constantly terrible but equally emotional Dundie Awards or Jim’s pranks on Dwight, they all contribute to the show’s legacy.

· It’s kind of sad to know, but it feels so natural that no one complains.

THE ROOTS

· It’s Relatable and Brings the Drama

· Still Remembered as a Comedy

· The Cast Has Amazing Chemistry, Dialogues are Subtle (Except When It’s Not)

· It’s Gloriously Awkward(that is purely acceptable because it is a mockumentary!)

· The Running Gags- There’s a reason you may be drawn to “Parks and Recreation”, “Silicon Valley” or “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, if you love “The Office” and it’s not just because they’re all ensemble workplace sitcoms.

· THE COLD OPENS- The Office is the king of cold opens. A cold open is the scene before the theme song. What makes them “cold” is that they’re in no way related to the plot of the episode, probably for viewers who start watching a minute or two late. If you’re ever feeling bored, just Google “The Office Cold Opens”.

“The difference between being good and being great is that greatness stands the test of time. Good baseball players make the All-Star Game, great players make the Hall of Fame and those who saw them play tell children what it was like to watch them play. Such as it is with TV shows.”
